Community Alliance Senior Pastor
Although I accepted Christ as my Savior at an early age and attended church regularly, I did not commit myself to follow Jesus seriously until my experience on summer staff at Camp of the Woods in Speculator NY. There, through powerful biblical teaching and godly Christian mentors, I began my lifelong practice of striving to love Jesus with all my heart and following His example in loving other people (Matthew 22:36-40).
I met my wife, Joy, while attending Houghton College in 1972. Early in our relationship we dreamed about seeing our marriage and future family used by God to multiply disciples of Jesus Christ. Thankfully, all of our three boys are using their gifts creatively to build God’s kingdom. Peter serves as a chef in a Christian camp in Northern Maine, Joel directs an urban community development agency in Denver, and Ben is on an educational sabbatical from serving as a Christian worker in a creative access country.
While Joy pursued training in counseling psychology, I furthered my studies in Christian Education and Pastoral Ministry at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. After completing 6 years of pastoring full-time and 30 years of teaching full-time in a variety of Christian colleges and seminaries while serving as a part-time pastor in many different churches, I returned to the Adirondack region of New York to pastor CAC full-time. We count it a privilege to be serving the Lord and our church family at Community Alliance.
When we are not with our church family we can be found walking in our neighborhood, skiing in the Adirondack Mountains, canoeing near our log cabin in the mountains, rummaging around antique stores or driving around mountain roads in our 1965 yellow MGB.
God is good. What an honor to serve Him!
